Brain Camp

Brain Camp Frequently Asked Questions:

Why is there only one camp each summer?

The people who help run the camp are either scientists, teachers, students or other volunteers who have other summer responsibilities and jobs and unfortunately that limits the camp to being held just one week each year.

Why is it held at the end of July?

We like to use the classes at Renfroe Middle School and can't hold the camp when summer school or other summer programs are in session.

Why are the number of spaces in the camp limited?

We want the camp to be a safe, fun and educational experience for your child. We prefer to have a low camper/teacher ratio (5-6 campers/1 teacher).

Why was it free for some CSD families last year but there is a fee this year?

The camp is partially supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives and this year we have less money to run the camp. The fees go to help buy supplies and pay the middle school teachers who help us a small stipend. We are not a business and do not make money from the camp, we are just tyring to enhance science education for middle school children.
