Brain Camp
There are currently no plans for Brain Camp for Summer 2012. The brain camp was originally developed by Melissa K. Demetrikopoulos, Ph.D. and Jordan Rose, M.P.H.. Dr. Demetrikopoulos currently runs a Brains and Behavior Program for gifted learners in Clearwater, FL with Energetic Einsteins. Energetic Einsteins is not affiliated with the CBN. What is Brain Camp?
Brain Camp is a summer education program for middle school students to learn about the brain through fun, hands-on activities led by real neuroscientists. The curriculum, which is tied to the new Georgia Performance Standards for seventh-grade life science, consists of a series of activities including:
- Dissections of sheep brains and cow eyes;
- Experiments on the sensory systems;
- Lessons on neuroanatomy, memory, and how nutrition affects the nervous system;
- Brain art and building "beady" neurons.
Program Benefits:
- The goal of the program is to cultivate a life-long interest in science and neuroscience, and to teach scientific inquiry and thinking.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Rising fifth- through eighth-grade students.
