Brain Awareness Month 2008

In the News:

GOVERNOR PERDUE PROCLAIMS MARCH "BRAIN AWARENESS MONTH" IN GEORGIA

Welcome to the Atlanta Center for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN) "Brain Awareness Month" Web site. Each year, the CBN teams with the Atlanta Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience to spread the word about the importance of brain health and research.

Brain Awareness Month or "BAM" as we like to call it, stems from the national Brain Awareness Week campaign launched in 1996, which has united the Society for Neuroscience with the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives and a coalition of over 1,200 science, advocacy, and other health organizations that share an interest in elevating public awareness of brain and nervous system research.

National Brain Awareness Week: March 10-16, 2008

Below are links to BAM events, resources, contact information and more, that will help you, your classroom and your family, celebrate the brain.

Metro Atlanta K-12 Classroom Visits

Throughout March

The Center for Behavioral Neuroscience and the Atlanta Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience team with area scientists to visit local classrooms and share the importance of the brain and brain health with students and teachers. During the visits, students learn about neuroanatomy, touch a real brain, play a multi-media BRAIN GAME, act out brain/muscle interactions needed to move arms and legs, and collect information about neuroscience careers.

These visits are free and open to all schools in the Atlanta metro area. Due to the number of requests, we are unfortunately not able to fulfill all requests. Requests filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To request a classroom visit, log on to: http://www.atlantabrains.org and fill out the online form.
